Plumbing the Depth

Hi Fishing Buddies

Here is a tip for all you new anglers out there that don’t know how to plumb the depth of the water you are fishing in.

I have tried to make this as simple as possible. First you need to get yourself a plumb weight there a few types on the market like one you thread the hook and line through the eye and clip the hook in the bit of cork underneath and  one that just clips on to the hook the choice is yours they all do the same job.

First set your float to a depth you think then cast in if the float dissapears your float is set too low see Fig 1.

Reel in and move the float up and cast out again if the float lies on the water the float is too high see Fig 2.

Keep repeating this until your float is like Fig 3.

Now you have got the depth all you have to do is fine tune the float by adding a few more weights at the base of the float so the tip is just above the water.

Now you can fish on the bottom or at any depth so if you want to fish higher up just move your float down the line.

Hair Rig

Hi Fishing Buddies

Here is another little tip for anglers new to the sport who have heard other anglers mention their fishing with an hair rig and thinking  WHAT well worry not an hair rig is a little loop in your line which sits under the base of the hook. You can then pull the loop through your bait by using a little baiting needle but don’t forget to put a little bait stop in the loop after you have pulled it through this will stop the bait flying off when you cast out.

This Diagram will show you how to tie an Hair Rig on your Hook Link.

Fishing Set up Costs

Hi

For all you people out there who are thinking of taking up fishing but are put of  by all the various places saying you need this rod for that and that reel for this, well in some ways they are right but you can get started by not spending a fortune then if you don’t like it and don’t  want to carry on you have not shelled out shed loads of hard earned cash.

But if you get HOOKED decide what type of fishing you want to do and build your tackle up accordingly  from there you can always get advice, Help and tips from here in the forum or there is always other forums and not forgetting the old favorite YouTube.

So here are  some places and costs of  kit i got to start with then i have slowly been building up from that.

Argos

They do a junior fishing set for £24.99 and an adult set for £29.99 this consists of a telescopic rod with a 0.9lb test curve a fixed spool reel with a gear ratio of 4.8.1 and a few floats, hooks, weights and a bait box in a carry case.

The Range

They have Rods from £9,99 and Reels from £9.99 Plus a large selection of Accessories at very reasonable prices.

Aldi and Lidl

Check out these as they have Fishing Tackle offers on a regular basis go on their  website and register for special offers it’s free and they email you with their next offer week.

Pound Stretcher and Pound land

Don’t Laugh i have found the odd decent bit of kit in here and guess how much yep you got it a quid.

Your Local Angling Shop

Now you are thinking that the tackle they have is going to be dear not necessary a lot of them now are having to bring their prices to a more competitive level but the advantage they have over all others above  is they know the sport so you can ask their advise and they will always help you.

Last check round car boot sales.

So there you have it fishing  without breaking the bank.

Note:-

You should have a landing net but don’t need a keep net unless you are match fishing as most waters are catch and release and for the welfare of the fish always use Barbless Hooks and if you are fishing for carp it is advisable to have a unhooking mat.

Hope This is helpful and brings more of you into the sport.

Wagler Float Rig

Hello again

Here is another tip for newbie anglers here is how i set up a wagler rig which i use on still waters like lakes and ponds to gauge the size of the locking shot most floats have the shot size required printed on them it is also better to tie the hook link to the main line with a line to line knot but i prefer the swivel i find it easier when my fingers are wet and cold soft or what. Also you can incorporate a quick change float adapter this will let you change floats without having to tackle down.

Other Anglers will set this rig up different so it would be nice for them to put their rig set up on here for others to see.

I bet you are now thinking what’s a line to line knot and how do i tie it well fear not we have put some fishing knot diagrams on here.
